The Four Seasons Hualalai, Island of Hawaii - Full-Time Travel

Four Seasons Hualalai

ISLAND OF HAWAII
In a Nutshell:

Situated on the sunny North Kona coast of Hawaii Island, where the lava fields meet the deep blue Pacific Ocean, the Four Seasons Hualalai is perfectly integrated with its surroundings. Think lush tropical gardens accented with hulks of volcanic rock and saltwater ponds. Accommodations are arranged in four ocean-facing crescents (each with a different feel) and a golf course-adjacent row.

The resort is very family-friendly, with loads to keep kids occupied, from instructor-led snorkel expeditions to video game stations, but if you’re craving quiet time, request a room in Palm Grove, an adults-only crescent with a swim-up bar in the pool.

EDITOR'S TIP: Book a lomi lomi massage at the beautiful spa. Lomi lomi is an ancient Hawaiian healing technique incorporating long rhythmic strokes, producing one of the best massages of my life.

Why We Love It:
  • The award-winning restaurant ‘Olu Ocean Grill & Sushi Lounge uses ingredients cultivated on-site, including kale, mango, vanilla, and chili peppers. Even shrimp and oysters!
  • The total tranquillity of the spa. Make sure you get there a little before your treatment to enjoy the steam room, sauna, and outdoor cold plunge, and don’t leave without visiting the tropical garden relaxation area complete with a reflexology stream (pebbles set into the floor massage your feet as you paddle).
  • Physical activities galore, including reformer pilates and yoga classes, tennis and basketball courts, bocce, a climbing wall, and even a golf course that hosts the PGA tour.
  • A visit to the on-site cultural center – open daily for ukulele lessons, shell craft, feather art, Hawaiian language lessons, star navigation classes, and more – will tie your entire Hawaii experience together.
The Unmissable Experience:

Make sure you visit the King’s Pond: an ocean-fed natural aquarium home to 4000 fish and one friendly ray. Grab a snorkel, mask, and flippers from the attendant and dive in.

"This sculpture is called "Transmission" by artist Daniel Popper. Its a reminder that we are all rooted in love, unity and the divine. She stands a towering 28 feet tall and is located on Mojave Moon Ranch in Joshua Tree. The land is private property, so you can see it from the viewing platform off of Sunfair Road. And take it from me, it's best viewed at sunset."

Swim or kayak through the limestone cliffs of the Twin Lagoon, a must-visit destination for those traveling to Coron, Palawan, Philippines. It is called "twin" lagoon because it consists of two lagoons separated by a limestone cliff, with one lagoon on top of the other. The water in the inner lagoon is warm and clear, with a stunning turquoise color that makes it popular for swimming and snorkeling.

Just 1 hour from Shanghai by train, Cherry Blossom Valley is a popular tourist destination, particularly in the spring when the cherry blossoms are in full bloom. The valley is named after the thousands of cherry blossom trees that cover the area and create a stunning display of pink and white flowers. The trees were originally planted in the 1980s by a group of Japanese experts who were invited to China to help with reforestation efforts. The best time to visit is typically in late March or early April. Get there early to beat the crowds!

For a magical moment and bucket list travel experience, visit the end point of the annual monarch butterfly migration. Starting in August, the monarchs travel 2,800 miles south from Canada, making a temporary home amid the towering trees of the Monarch Butterfly Biosphere Reserve in Mexico, where the two most popular sanctuaries to view them are el Rosario in the state of Michoacan and Piedra Herrada in Estado de México. As we experience a couple more weeks of winter, we can't help but dream of tropical destinations like Hawaii. The warm water, sunny skies, and consistent waves make it an ideal destination for surfers.
