Discover Georgia's Enchanting Golden Isles

Sponsored Content from Golden Isles

@Golden Isles

Each of Georgia’s five Golden Isles towns — St. Simons Island, Sea Island, Little St. Simons Island and Jekyll Island and the historic port city of Brunswick — comes with its own charisma, personality and appeal, making it an idyllic destination for all types of travelers. Golfers, beachcombers, history buffs and eco-tourists will all find unique experiences suited for couples and families alike. For nature lovers looking for a dramatic backdrop, Driftwood Beach on Jekyll Island is one that you won't find anywhere else. Once a maritime forest, this striking sea-scape is now lined with driftwood and weathered trunks and branches resembling a scene from another world. The result is a highly photogenic coastline that’s perfect for engagement and wedding photos, or simply enjoying early-morning sunrises, after-dark stargazing, picnics, and more. Tip: Time your visit to low (or outgoing) tide. Check a current tide chart before planning your visit.

Tree Spirits

@Golden Isles

Looking for an outdoor experience unlike any other? Explore the majestic oak trees that cover St. Simons Island while searching for Tree Spirits, a series of faces hand-carved into oak trunks and branches. The work of a local artist in the 1980s, there are approximately 20 meticulously carved faces on centuries-old live oak trees throughout St. Simons, the largest of all the islands. While some are located on private property, others can be found on public lands, offering an incredible and captivating way for families to explore the island on bike or foot. Make a day out of it with an itinerary that includes helpful hints to finding Tree Spirits.

Some of our favorite historic properties—including the delcoronado in San Diego—are said to be haunted by the ghosts of guests past. In the case of the Del, the spirit of Kate Morgan, who checked into the iconic resort in 1892, is believed to have never left. (Though with some of the best beachfront access anywhere in California, we can’t say we blame her for wanting to stay at the property forever.) Tell us, would you stay at a haunted hotel?

We’ve said it once, and we’ll say it again: biking is one of the best ways to explore destinations both new and familiar. 🚴🏽‍♀️ And viceroyhotels seems to agree. The hotel group has just launched a selection of curated routes out of its hotels in Santa Monica, Chicago, Washington D.C., and the Algarve, Portugal, with cycling brand Rapha. Designed for serious bikers and leisurely riders alike, each guided route is designed to get lost in the hidden corners of each destination and connect with local communities in a way you can’t on four wheels.

You’ve heard of Michelin Stars, but what about Michelin Keys? Earlier this month, Michelin awarded its second-ever group of Keys to outstanding hotels and resorts in over 100 countries across every continent (save Antarctica). Included on the list with a top three-Key designation is South Africa’s stunning royalmalewane — which debuted the new Masiya’s Camp, pictured here, earlier this year.

Check the link in our bio for the full list of newly keyed properties…and while you’re there, sign up for our newsletter: more bucket-list worthy hotel recommendations are coming your way later this week.
