California’s Highway 1 is back in business after being closed through Big Sur for nearly two years — here’s what you can’t miss along the PCH:
🌊 Carmel-by-the-Sea: Stay in town at laplayaca or laubergecarmel, which offer easy access to shops, tasting rooms, and great restaurants. If you’re in the mood to golf, book a night at the historic Lodge at Pebble Beach.
🌊 Big Sur: Hit the trails at Point Lobos on your way out of Carmel, then soak up the iconic drive as you head to ventanabigsur or postranchinn.
🌊 Cambria & San Luis Obispo: Book a tour at the iconic Hearst Castle as you make your way out of Big Sur. Then, stay in charming Cambria at the whitewatercambria (we recommend getting up early, grabbing a coffee, and heading to Moonstone Beach to watch the surfers catch waves). Or, make your way just a little further south for a night in SLO, named one of the happiest cities in California.
🌊 Santa Ynez Valley & Santa Barbara: Cut inland for a day or two of wine tasting in Santa Ynez Valley (stay at sanysidroranch or matteistavernauberge), or head directly into Santa Barbara, where you can hop between tasting rooms on the Urban Wine Trail, soak up the beautiful beaches, and take in the Spanish-style architecture.
🌊 Malibu & Santa Monica: Many of Malibu’s trails, beaches, and hotels are open a year after the devastating Palisades Fire. Spend the night at one of them — you can’t go wrong with thesurfridermalibu or noburyokanmalibu), or make your way into Santa Monica.
🌊 Laguna Beach: Soak up the art scene and lounge by pristine beaches with a stay at casalomabeachhotel, montagelaguna or the new lepetitpali.
🌊 San Diego: For your last stop, spend a few days brewery hopping, touring the museums at Balboa Park, and wandering the city’s diverse neighborhoods. pendrysandiego and delcoronado are both great places to stay.

Whether you want to embrace the winter weather or are looking to escape it, these are the destinations that should be on your itinerary from now until March.
🇦🇹 Vienna: Head to the city from Jan-April for ball season to catch an opera or a very, very elegant night out
🌴 Palm Springs: Modernism Week returns to the desert from February 12-26
🏔️ French Alps: Skip the Olympic madness in the Dolomites and head to Les 3 Vallées, Europe’s largest (and perhaps most luxurious) ski area.
🇯🇲 Jamaica: Beloved resorts in hotspots like Ocho Rios, Negril, and Montego Bay have reopened after Hurricane Melissa, and visiting is one of the best ways to support the island nation as it recovers.
🇲🇽 Mexico City: There’s never a bad time to visit CDMX, but the temps are especially mild in January and February—perfect for long days wandering trendy neighborhoods.
